Search Your Google Mails From The Chrome Address Bar

If you are a Gmail user you probably have the web mail interface open 24/7 to read new emails or search your existing emails. Some of you may prefer to use a notification extension instead which informs you whenever new mail arrives.

Gmail Search for Chrome offers another option. It enables searching right from your Chrome address bar which can speed up access to specific emails that you have received or sent in the past. You do not have to worry about the program accessing your emails though, as it is redirecting all searches directly to Gmail where they are performed.

Let me show you how it works. After you have installed the extension in the Chrome browser, you can fire up searches by typing in gs and hitting the space bar on the keyboard. You can alternatively tap on the tab key instead of the space bar key to fire up the search interface.

You will now see Gmail Search being displayed in the address bar. Just type in the search phrase that you would like to find and hit enter. You are now redirected to your Gmail account and there to the search results listing for that particular search.

The search results open in the same tab. You may be required to log in to Gmail first before you can see the results. If you are already logged in, you will see them right away.

The extension itself gets no access to your Gmail login information or your messages, which is great for security and privacy reasons.

Gmail Search is a useful extension for Gmail users who do not have the Google Mail interface open all the time. It reduces the time it takes to search all messages for specific contents.

Google Chrome users can download and install the extension from the official Chrome Web Store. (via Addictive Tips)
