If your hard drives are always filled to the brim with stuff, it may be time for some spring cleaning to free up disk space to fill them with new shiny files. If you are in the know, you could go file hunting by yourself, delete some files and uninstall programs that you no longer need or work with. If you are not tech-savvy, you could be in a world of trouble though, as you may not know how to do that, or where to even get started.
A program like the free Wise Disk Cleaner for the Windows operating system automates much of the process for you. It basically cleans temporary files and stuff that is not needed for any functionality of the operating system. Using it, it is quite possible to free up Gigabytes of disk space.

One thing that you need to keep in mind though is that its “common cleaner” features may delete files that you may miss afterwards. This includes web site logins in the form of cookies which let you access a site’s contents without logging in first, or your browsing history. For the most part though, you can safely delete everything that comes your way.
If you want to be on the safe side, uncheck the Surf the Internet options under traces in computer to avoid this from happening. You can also head over to the advanced cleaner tab to find more temporary files on your system. The program will not scan the Windows directory by default, to avoid that files get deleted here that are still needed by the operating system.
If you want, you can configure Wise Disk Cleaner to run regularly on schedule, for instance once every month to free up disk space automatically on the PC.
Another area that you may want to explore is the slimming system tab. Here you can select Windows components that you may not need. This includes language files, help files, or even downloaded update files that have already been installed and are usually not needed anymore if no problems are experienced after the installation.
You can download the program for free over at the Wise Cleaner website.
