Check for Windows software updates with SUMO

One of the things that you need to do to make sure your computer is protected security-wise is to  always run the latest version of installed applications on your system. While you can do that manually as well, you would spend lots of time doing so. Even if you have only ten or so programs installed, you would have to check the program websites manually every day provided that they do not include an automatic update system.

An automatic system like that provided by SUMO makes the whole process that more comfortable. You can download a portable version of the program that does not need to be installed on your computer. Just run the program and let the program scan your system for installed applications automatically. Once you have done that, you can click on the check button to check for updates for all application.

The check should not take longer than a few seconds, and you end up with a report that is listing each program’s update status. Each program is listed with its name and company that developed it, as well as the installed version and the latest version.

Updates are furthermore classified into minor and major updates, and it is always a good idea to start with the major updates if possible before you update programs with minor updates.

If a program is missing from the list, you can use the add button to add it manually to SUMO. This is helpful for portable applications for instance which SUMO can’t recognize automatically.

You can select any program and then click on the get update button to open a web page that is listing the different program versions and links to the developer website and software portals from where you can download the latest version of the program. It is still required to download and apply the update manually.

SUMO is an excellent application, and I would suggest you run it at least once a week to make sure you catch all program updates and install the updates as soon as you are notified about them.
