Facebook is closing in on the one billion user mark. It is only natural that a small percentage of those users is experiencing issues that the majority is not experiencing. I recently got pinged by a good friend who in her hurry to register on the site missed that she had entered an incorrect birthday on the site. To make matters worse, that birthday made her a minor in the eyes of Facebook, when she in fact was not.
It felt natural to look in the account settings first, which turned up empty. The Edit Profile option was the second choice, and while a birthday was displayed there, it could not be edited at all.
So what do you do when you need to change your birthday but cannot? Contacting Facebook Support is not really an option, considering that the social network site does everything in their might to hide phone numbers, emails and other means of contact on the site. And even if you’d find one, you’d probably get an answer that you should post in the community support forum instead.
Thankfully though there is a form for that, but it is hidden from normal users. You can access the form here to request that your birthday is changed to the new day, month and year. Since you are asked to enter a reason, it is fairly certain that a support member will read the request and either accept or deny it.
I’d suggest to state that you made an error during sign up and want to resolve it now. You could try other reasons if you prefer, and if you do let me know how it worked out for you.
Do you understand Facebook’s move to block direct changes to a user’s birthday? The only reason that I can come up with are to prevent minors from changing their birthdays to become adults in the virtual world. What’s your take on this?
